Starts, Tulips, and Blue Sky

This last month was my Birthday (I am now closer to 40 than 30) and so thankful for another year! My Birthday has always represented the beginning of spring for me, some years we have crocus blooming, I’ve seen daffodils this year. I expect more green sprouts to pop through and for more things to be blooming soon, ok?

In the grow room downstairs we have so many little green shoots and I LOVE IT! I know I’ve said it before but growing things in the spring is so life giving, it really does grow hope in my heart. I sneak down to cheer them on at least 2x a day, and yes I do even talk to them. Each day there is something new popping through, or growing taller, or getting new leaves. Since we overwintered our spring flowers, most of what we are starting now will bloom in time for June weddings, and than for our summer subscriptions!

Yesterday I planted the first starts (that tray of stock from the the above picture) out into our mini hoop houses, the temperature in there feels like summer, so much so it killed some of our spring flowers…ahhh sometimes too much heat in the spring isn’t great for growing. However since I always plant more than I need it gave me some space to plant more:)

We are loving working and playing outside. One beautiful day last week we placed silage tarps out in preparation for planting in 3-4 weeks. The hope is this will smother the ever eager weeds, and provide more nutrients for the soil, and eventually the flowers we will plant there! In our spring area the tulips are popping up everywhere and the ones we hooped (those under greenhouse plastic) are looking very promising to bloom in the next 3 weeks. Just in time for Easter! Flower time is coming! This also means our spring and tulip subscriptions will be starting soon!

Please let me know if you have any growing questions or need seed recommendations, I love talking about all things growing flowers! Don’t forget to take a look at our subscriptions and check back for Easter flower offerings and Mother’s Day options on the website.
